Science of Fish Oil
The science of fish oils lives in the word "elcosenoids". Elcosanoids are short-lived messengers used by the body to promote different types of "reactions". As in any good story, there are "good" guys and "bad" guys. The typical American diet combined with a lifstyle of stress tends to favor the bad elcosenoids. These bad elconoids send messages to the body that promote blood clotting and chronic inflammatory processes.

They have been implicated in cardiovascular disease, atherossclerosis, arthritis, asthma, and auto-immune disease. Getting adequate amounts of fish oils provides the essential fatty acids that favor the production of good elscosenoids. Research has proven these good elconsenoids inhibit blood clotting, relax blood vessels, lower blood pressure, lower LDL cholesterol and tryglycerides, raise HDL cholesterol, reduce insulin resistance (which can lead to adult onset diabetes), reduce the harmful cardiovascular effects of stress, and reduce age-related senility. In short it is best to promote the elcosenoids through proper diet, stress management and fish oil supplementation.
